Relationships or Rules?

9 Jan

Scripture is clear that we have two options – we can choose either to protect the rules and create a religious culture, or to protect our relationships and create a culture of love. And only one of these options is the covenant that Christ died to make with us.

If Jesus died to make a covenant with us, we could break it. If He died to make a covenant with the Father, it cannot be broken.
If we, by being in Him, benefit from His covenant, we cannot lose those benefits. And we become co-heirs with Jesus.

Jeremy, you make an excellent point. But I don’t think DS is referring specifically to the new covenant. Rather, he’s describing Christ’s promise to be with us intimately in a love-relationship. Much of this chapter is about Christ living His life through us which is, as you say, one of the benefits of the covenant made between God the Father and God the Son.
